Romeo & Juliet

Romeo & Juliet
By William Shakespeare

Rating: 9/10

I thought Romeo & Juliet was a brilliant play. I thought the concept of secret love between Romeo and Juliet was a really good idea for a play. The first few scenes went slowly because I just wanted Romeo and Juliet to meet!  After Act 1 the play was very fast-moving. I enjoyed when Romeo and Juliet meet and all their planning to get married in secret. After Mercutio dies and everything goes wrong for the two lovers I think it changes the play dramaticaly from the happy love of the start of the play to the despair of everything going wrong but it makes the play more thrilling and exciting. The anticipation kept me in suspence; wondering what the fate of the 'star-crossed' lovers would be. Although I knew most of what would happen from the prologue. I didn't like knowing they would both die because as it got near the I wanted them to be able to live in Mantua together but I knew they wouldn't be able to. I didn't like the ending because it was really depressing! You know Romeo and Juliet are going to die but then so does Paris. His death is very unexpected. Aswell as that Lady Montague dies! It's a very sad scene; Montague is left with no one, Capulet has newly found grief when Juliet is found dead again and the Prince has lost another kinsman.
Overall the play was really good and I really want to see the movie. I can imagine with all the Shakespeare language it would be a bit boring in the theatre.

The Spook's Mistake

Title: The Spook's Mistake.

Author: Joseph Delaney.

Num. of Pages: 462

My Rating: 8/10

Summary: This book is the forth in a series. Tom Ward was the seventh son of a seventh son. This means he is able to sense the dead. He becomes the Spook's apprentice and has fought the darkness many times before but this time is the worst. In the last book the Fiend (devil) becomes enemies with Tom and he is now in grave danger. The Spook decides to send him to Bill Arkwright, his old apprentice, to be trained and kept safe from the Fiend. Tom does not want to leave the Spook's house because his friend Alice lives there with them. Alice and Tomas are very close. The Spook does not approve of her because she was once a witch. Reluclantly, he says he will go.

He sets off to Arkwright's for six months. Arkwright is a very hard trainer and is very aggresive because of his drinking problems. Tom trys to go back to the Spook's house but Arkwright gets him back and promises to stop drinking and be fairer. He starts enjoying his time at Bill Arkwright's. After a few months they set off in search of a water witch, Morwena. She is one the worst water witches and pulls her prey into the lake with her claw and drains them of blood. Tom went in search of her ahead of Arkwright but when he came back to him he found his boot and presumed Morwena had dragged him into the water. He immediately went back to the house as quick as possible afraid Morwena would come after him. When he got back the Spook had left a letter with the bargeman for him. It said to meet him in a nearby town. Tomas was suspicious at this but went on the barge with him anyway. He would soon regret this as the "bargeman" was actually the Fiend himself! He captured Tom and brought him to an underground lair. Lucky for Tom the Spook found him and saved and they went in search of Bill Arwright who the Spook believed was still alive.

After visiting a hermit, travelling to an island and swimming through a tunnel they managed to find him and bring back to the house. They thought the worst was over but the Fiend froze time and came to talk to Tom. He made a bargain that if Tom goes out to the moor and fight Morwena, the Fiend's own daughter, he will let the others go. If he loses he will be under the Fiends command and if he wins he gets to go free.

Who will succeed in this battle??

Read and find out...

My Thoughts: I thought this was a very good book! It dragged out a bit though. There was too many different plots in it like when he went to Arkwrights then he runs away, then they go after Morwena, then he goes back to the house to be captured by the Fiend and then saved by the Spook and after all that he still has to fight Morwena. Although after saying that i did enjoy it!

Review on my Blog!!

I liked having a blog for my book reports because it's easier to type it out rather than having to write it all out. Also you can make your blog have colours you picked out and whatever font you want. This makes the book report look better and neater and it's easier for other people to read it. It was good to be able to read other people's reviews and comment on them. It helped to pick out the next book i was going to read next. I really liked using the blog and I hope we use it again next year!!

The Diary Of A Young Girl

Title: The Diary Of A Young Girl

Author: Anne Frank

No. of pages: 340

Rating: 9/10

Summary: This is the diary written by Anne Frank! She was a Jew during World War II and she had to go into hiding with her family. She was 13 when she went into hiding. They lived with another family called the Van Daans. She spent 2 years in the Secret Annexe. It was the office that her father worked in, in Amsterdam. The people who helped them hide and supplied them with food were Mr. Kugler, Mr. Kleiman, Meip and Bep. They were very good to them and catered for their every need! There was a lot of fights and quarrels as they were in such a confined space. After a year a dentist called Mr. Dussel moved into the Annexe. The diary is a day-to-day account of life in the Annexe for a 13 year old girl. The diary ends abruptly when the Germans found out where they were in hiding and took them to concentration camps. Otto Frank, Anne's father, was the only person who survived from the Secret Annexe. He was the person who published this book!

My Thoughts: I thought it was a brilliant book! I thought it was good because she was the same age as I am. It was amazing that someone actually lived like that and that it wasn't a book of fiction! I felt sad when she talked about when she'd be free because I knew that it would never happen.
